My name is Franklyn and I am your virtual electrician.
About Me
I come to your home, through your phone, to help you with your electrical project.
Journeyman Electrician & Entrepreneur
Having gone through a 5 year, apprenticeship program, it wasn’t just learning about how to do the work of a Journeyman Electrician, but learning how electricity works was what made it exciting. After working in the field for about 15 years, I was brought into the office and was asked to do more managerial type things.
Pandemic Changed A Few Things
In the start of the pandemic, as we were all in lock down mode, I received many calls from friends and family members on how to do their DIY electrical jobs. It got to the point that I felt like my time was not being compensated.
(Hand bent and installed conduit raceways for about 80 different sets of electrical wires to a section of a hospital floor. Had to install these electrical boxes so that the wires can keep going.)
Tried Other Avenues
Spending anywhere from a few minutes to a couple of hours trying to help others with their electrical projects, I knew that I could get paid for my time. And I found a site that would allow me to text chat with others on their DIY projects.
(Installed an LED strip to have decorative glass lit from behind. Installed a very large light fixture to center this space.)
It lacked Personality
One thing I didn’t like about the live text chatting, was the fact that it was hard to text what steps needed to be done. I knew what I was talking about because I am an electrician. But talking to an average DIY homeowner who is a little lost at what they are trying to accomplish, they are flustered and communication starts to tear down.
At times I would have to explain how to wire a smart wire switch. It would mean that I would have to say: “Take the black wire from the wall that is with the red and white wire, and tie that to the LINE input on the back of the switch. Then take the other red wire that is with the black that is on the other side of the box and tie that with the LOAD of the switch.”
Does that make sense to even you?
I knew there had to be a better way of explaining simple DIY projects to a homeowner. Since our phones are excellent tools, it has the ability to video chat someone since it has a camera on the front AND on the back.
Plus, with other DIY help sites, they will say that a question will cost you a nominal fee, but then expect a monthly membership. I wanted to, with the help of Video Chat a Pro, help offer an experience that will want you to come back again in the near future, not force you.
If you have that DIY project on hold because of a question you have OR need the help to install that one item, please consider me as your Virtual Electrician and get started today.
